A stolen Kiss or more amiss?

As some one that is not at present in Israel, it is with some concern I see so many of the Israel government's official representatives seemingly embroiled in either one scandal or another.

After reading a report in J Post on the ex Justice Minister Ramon's testimony and hearing of what appears to be impropriety on behalf of the investigation team in regards to a lot of its actions, I am starting to wonder. It seems the Israeli Police investigators have decided a certain course to take first then built the facts around that course.

Enough of my opinion, its certainly not qualified in any regards, but do read these two articles.

The first is a Jpost's report on Ramon's testimony, the second Jpost commentary on certain alarming decisions made by investigators.

1. JPost: Ramon claims accuser flirted with him

2. JPost: Comment: Ramon's tale of the kiss

As I said, I'm not in Israel, I don't know the parties involved, or for that matter other contributing subtleties.

Let me know what you think.

Jolie hides from angry Islamic crowd

Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie waves to fans while later,
inset, police try to calm an angry parent outside the Anjuman-i-Islam School
in Mumbai who claimed Jolie's bodyguards pushed his child.

US star Angelina Jolie was stranded at an Islamic school in Mumbai where she was shooting a movie on Thursday, when angry parents accused her bodyguards of shoving their children around.

Jolie's bodyguards were unable to clear a way for her through the irate crowd for at least half an hour, said witnesses who were at the school in Mumbai, India's financial hub.

The parents said they had come to pick up their children at the primary school where Jolie was shooting A Mighty Heart, a film about US journalist Daniel Pearl's abduction and murder by Islamic militants in Pakistan in 2002.

The film's crew were trying to recreate a Pakistani police station at the Islamic Anjuman-i-Islam school, one parent said.

"Some of the students were pushed around when they were leaving school by the bodyguards," said Mohammed Yousuf, general secretary of the Parent-Teachers Association, whose two children study at the school.

"Jolie's bodyguards had no decency and they pushed some of the women around," added Sarwar Siddique, who had come to collect his two children.

"The children got scared at seeing the crew dressed in police uniform and carrying weapons," Siddique added.

Another unidentified man told private NDTV network that one of Jolie's bodyguards called a man in the crowd outside the school a "bloody Indian" and made a gesture miming the slitting of a throat.

Parents said all the exits were blocked and the children could not leave the premises, leading to chaos and a scuffle.

There was no immediate comment from Mumbai police, but media reports said Jolie finally managed to get out of the school with the help of her bodyguards.

This is at least the third time the Hollywood star has ruffled feathers since her arrival in India with partner Brad Pitt and three children last month.

In October, Indian television showed pictures of a man it said was the couple's bodyguard roughing up a British photographer in the western city of Pune.

The couple also upset officials in the resort city of Jodhpur after they landed a helicopter without permission.

'Intensify' Mid - East efforts, says Australian PM

Prime Minister John Howard is calling on the US and the international community to "intensify" efforts to achieve an Israeli-Palestinian settlement - as part of an overall exit strategy from the conflict in Iraq.
In a speech to the American Australian Association in Sydney on Tuesday, Howard was sceptical about suggestions that Iran and Syria could play a positive role in an Iraqi settlement, saying one should "maintain a realistic mindset about the motivations and behaviour of such countries".
"[But] far more importantly, and notwithstanding the difficulties and setbacks of recent times, let us intensify our efforts towards a sustainable and just solution to the Palestinian issue.
Wherever one goes in the Muslim world, and whenever one talks to moderate Islamic leaders so vital to the struggle against Islamic extremism, there is a legitimate yearning for a lasting settlement to this issue."
Howard's emphasis on a "link" between Middle East extremism and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - long resisted by Israeli policymakers - echoed a similar message by British Prime Minister Tony Blair this week.

"We should start with Israel-Palestine. That is the core," Blair said in a major foreign-policy address in London on Monday.

"A major part of the answer to Iraq," Blair said, "lies not in Iraq itself but outside it ... That is what I call a 'whole Middle East' strategy.'"

Coupled with last week's victory by the Democratic Party in the US Congress, Blair's speech - now bolstered by Howard - is raising concern in Israel that US President George W Bush will push for an Israeli-Palestinian resolution as part of an exit strategy from Iraq.

Some Israeli analysts suspect that a thrust for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations could feature in the expected report by former US secretary of state James Baker.

The Israelis are concerned that such initiatives would undermine the international boycott of the Hamas government.

BB: We've really screwed up in Iraq by not having enough soldiers in the first place, so let's connect this screw up with Israel....No Thanks!

Campbell 'violent super bigot'

C
ampbell 'violent super bigot'

British supermodel Naomi Campbell appeared in court in New York yesterday on assault charges over an incident earlier this year in which she allegedly threw a mobile phone at her housekeeper.

[Click Read More...]

The case was immediately adjourned at the prosecution's request, giving both sides more time to pursue a possible plea deal. Judge Evelyn Laporte set the next hearing for January 16.

A New York state prosecutor told the hearing that a deal could be close.

"We are still in the process of working out a possible disposition," Assistant District Attorney Shanda Strain told Judge Evelyn Laporte of the Manhattan Criminal Court.

But Campbell's lawyer, David Breitbart, is not so sure.

"This case is not ready to be disposed of," he said after the brief hearing. "There's concerns on all sides," he added.

Campbell, wearing a slate grey dress with black jacket and tall stilettos, smiled as she left the courtroom surrounded by bodyguards and a bevy of friends, supporters and reporters.

She didn't address the court, conferring only with her lawyer, and left the courthouse without commenting.

"I personally hope we go to trial. At the end of a trial, as far as I'm concerned, is total vindication," Breitbart said, while refusing to rule out the possibility of a plea bargain involving community service.

"If there's something palatable, we'll talk about it," he said.

Campbell, 36, was arrested by New York police in March after her maid, Ana Scolavino, alleged the supermodel had thrown a mobile phone at her head and accused her of stealing a pair of jeans.

The wound required several stitches.

Campbell failed to show up at her last scheduled court appearance in September. Breitbart said the model was not feeling well.

She pleaded not guilty at a preliminary hearing in June, when the judge granted both sides more time to reach a deal or, failing agreement, allow for the convening of a grand jury to determine the final charges.

If the case goes to trial, the British supermodel faces a possible seven-year jail term on the current charge of second-degree assault.

Another former employee, Gaby Gibson, filed a separate lawsuit on Tuesday, accusing Campbell of discrimination and assault.

According to US press reports, the suit accuses Campbell of being "nothing more than a `violent super-bigot'," with "discriminatory tendencies."

Breitbart said he had not yet been given a copy of the complaint but said he was "frustrated that a lawyer would use terms like that," saying the case was only designed to embarrass Campbell on the eve of her court appearance.

Gibson alleges that Campbell poked fun at her broken English and yelled at Gibson because of her Romanian heritage, saying, 'You are not in the Third World any more, stupid."

Campbell was arrested in London last month over further assault allegations.

The Sun tabloid reported the catwalk star was arrested for allegedly scratching her drugs counselor in her face, citing an unnamed source.

In 2000, she pleaded guilty in a Canadian court to assaulting another assistant, Georgina Galanis, while shooting a movie two years earlier.

Galanis had accused the model of grabbing her by the throat and hitting her on the head, also with a telephone.

Campbell shot to fame after being scouted by the Elite modelling agency in London when she was just 15. She was the first black model to appear on the covers of Time magazine and the French and British editions of Vogue.

Plutonium Found in Iran Waste Facility

AP: VIENNA, Austria -- International Atomic Energy experts have found unexplained plutonium and highly enriched uranium traces in a nuclear waste facility in Iran and have asked Tehran for an explanation, an IAEA report said Tuesday.
The report, prepared for next week's meeting of the 35-nation IAEA, also faulted Tehran for not cooperating with the agency's attempts to investigate suspicious aspects of Iran's nuclear program that have lead to fears it might be interested in developing nuclear arms.
[Click Read More...]
And it said it could not confirm Iranian claims that its nuclear activities were exclusively nonmilitary unless Tehran increased its openness.

"The agency will remain unable to make further progress in its efforts to verify the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran," without additional cooperation by Tehran, said the report, by IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei.
Such cooperation is a "prerequisite for the agency to be able to confirm the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program," it added.

As expected, the four-page report made available to The Associated Press confirmed that Iran continues uranium enrichment experiments in defiance of the U.N. Security Council.
Both highly enriched uranium and plutonium can be used to make the fissile core of nuclear warheads, and Iran is under intense international pressure to freeze activities that can produce such substances.

But Tehran has shrugged off both Security Council demands that it stop developing its enrichment programs and urgings that it cease construction of a heavy water research reactor that produces plutonium waste. It insists it wants enrichment only to generate nuclear power and says it needs the Arak research reactor to produce isotopes for medical research and cancer treatment.

Earlier Tuesday, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that Iran would soon celebrate completion of its nuclear fuel program and claimed the international community was ready to accept it as a nuclear state.

Iran has been locked in a standoff with the West over its nuclear program. The United States and its European allies have been seeking a U.N. Security Council resolution imposing sanctions on Tehran for refusing to suspend uranium enrichment.

"Initially, they (the U.S. and its allies) were very angry. The reason was clear: They basically wanted to monopolize nuclear power in order to rule the world and impose their will on nations," Ahmadinejad told a news conference.

"Today, they have finally agreed to live with a nuclear Iran, with an Iran possessing the whole nuclear fuel cycle," he said. He did not elaborate.

President Bush said Monday there was no change in his position that Iran must first suspend uranium enrichment before there can be any dialogue with Tehran.

"Our focus of this administration is to convince the Iranians to give up its nuclear weapons ambitions. That focus is based on our strong desire for there to be peace in the Middle East. And an Iran with a nuclear weapon would be a destabilizing influence," Bush said Monday.

The Iranian leader said he hoped "to hold the big celebration of Iran's full nuclearization in the current year." Iran's current calendar year ends on March 20.
Though Ahmadinejad did not specify, he appeared to indicate that Iran was on the verge of proficiency in the whole cycle of nuclear fuel _ from extracting uranium ore to enriching it and producing nuclear fuel.

Russia, which is backed by China, opposes tough action advocated by the U.S., Britain and France, and its amendments to a Western draft resolution would reduce sanctions and delete language that would cut off Iran's access to foreign missile technology.

The U.S. and some of its allies allege that Iran is developing nuclear weapons and are suspicious of its intentions after Tehran concealed parts of its nuclear development from U.N. inspectors for many years.

Iran claims its program is peaceful and for generating electricity.
Uranium enrichment at low levels can be used to produce fuel to generate electricity but at higher levels can be use to make atomic bombs.

Iran has said it will never give up its right under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty to enrich uranium and produce nuclear fuel. Officials have said they plan to generate 20,000 megawatts of electricity through nuclear energy in the next two decades.

Since revelations more than three years ago of a covert uranium enrichment program, Iran has moved to develop its capabilities, activating two small experimental enrichment plants and enriching small amounts of uranium to nuclear fuel level.

Although that is far short of the weapons grade uranium that could be used for nuclear warheads, international concerns about Tehran's ultimate intentions led the Security Council to set an Aug. 31 deadline for an enrichment moratorium _ which Tehran has ignored.

Officials have said they plan to have 3,000 centrifuges operating by next year _ enough to make enough material for several nuclear weapons a year.
Suspicions also are focused on Tehran's construction of a heavy water reactor that _ when completed in the next decade _ will produce plutonium waste, another pathway to nuclear weapons.

The International Atomic Energy Agency declined comment on the Iranian president's remarks.
The Bush administration, frustrated by U.N. Security Council inaction on sanctions against Iran, is pressing a new agenda _ trying to deny Tehran U.N. aid for a plutonium-producing reactor that could be used to make nuclear warheads.

Diplomats from nations on the IAEA board say the U.S. is lobbying for denial of Iran's request for help on its Arak research reactor, where Iran says it wants to produce radio isotopes for diagnosing and treating cancer.

Seven diplomats, who demanded anonymity in exchange for discussing confidential information, told The Associated Press separately Tuesday that they believed that the 35 member nations of the Vienna-based U.N. nuclear watchdog would deny Iran's request when the IAEA meets next week.

But even a total denial of technical aid for Arak, while symbolically important, is expected to do little to slow the eventual completion of the reactor, let alone Iran's nuclear program. When finished _ probably early in the next decade _ Arak could produce enough plutonium for about two bombs a year.

BB: How does some highly enriched Plutonium just happen to be found in an Iranian Waste facility? Is Iran at a more advanced stage than the Western world has thought? We have already had two recent 'surprise' examples of countries announcing they have Nuclear weapons . Is it possible that Iran may be getting covert assitance from another recent Nuclear State?

This has to be seen to be a very serious escalation in monitoring Irans progressing path to Nuclear weapons.

Palestinian 'Angels of Death' Network is Exposed

The Israeli Security Agency recently exposed a network of women who filled key Palestinian Islamic Jihad posts in Judea. Some of them participated in its terrorist logistic and financial support systems.

They received funds from PIJ headquarters in Syria for terrorist-operatives in the Judea, Jerusalem and Ramallah areas. 1

[Click Read more to...]

Overview

1. In recent years women have been entrusted with key positions in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. While most of them deal with its organizational aspects, i.e., helping out with logistics in the West Bank and running "charitable societies" as a cover for PIJ activities, some of them have also been involved in supporting and funding its terrorist activities.

2. During August and September 2006 a number of senior female PIJ activists were detained in Judea by the Israeli Security Agency and IDF forces. Also detained were female activists who served as intermediaries for funds from PIJ headquarters in Syria . Some of the money from Syria was transferred to terrorist-operatives and used to fund terrorist activity in Judea, Jerusalem and Ramallah.

3. Khidhr Habib, a senior PIJ official, denied that the ISA had uncovered a cell of women who transferred money from Damascus to the West Bank . He said that all those detained were sisters or wives of shaheeds and PIJ detainees, and that they were charity workers, active in the societies established by the organization to aid the local population ( Ma'an News Agency , November 7, 2006).

4. Exposing the transfer of funds from Syria to terrorist-operatives in the field again illustrates the importance of financial leverage, which is one of the main tools used by PIJ headquarters in Syria to support terrorist attacks in the Palestinian Authority . It also illustrates the use the organization makes of the institutions belonging to the civilian infrastructure ( da'wah ) to support the terrorist-operative system.

Exposure of the PIJ's terrorism-funding
system in the Ramallah district

5. During August 2006 the ISA exposed two PIJ groups in the villages of 'Eiyn and Ni'ma, to the north and west of Ramallah, respectively. The 'Eiyn group carried out three shooting attacks; the Ni'ma group laid charges near the village and set up an explosives laboratory.

6. The ISA's investigation showed that Wadha 'Abd al-Hamid Mahmoud Fuqha Ghawanmeh , 34 and a resident of the Jalazoun refugee camp north of Ramallah, was an active accomplice in funding the terrorist groups' activities . She was a member of PIJ headquarters in Ramallah and head of the organization's office there. Her husband, Yussuf al-Fuqha is a senior PIJ operative in Ramallah and detained in Israel .

Right: Terrorist group funder:Wadha Ghawanmeh

7. Wadha Ghawanmeh was detained on August 3, 2006. During interrogation she stated that she had received funds from PIJ headquarters in Syria . She transferred some of it to be used to finance terrorist-operative squads by means of PIJ female activists who served as couriers .

Two of the couriers were Hibah Hamidat and Filastin Sabah , both residents of the Jalazoun refugee camp, who worked in the Ramallah office of Mu'assasat Mishkat al-Asir ("Prisoners' Light Institute"), an institution which deals with the affairs of PIJ terrorist-operatives imprisoned in Israel. The two were detained, and during interrogation admitted to having served as couriers.

Above Right: The couriers Hibah Hamidat[above]
and Filastin Sabah[below]

8. In addition to the two couriers, Wadha Ghawanmeh was assisted by other female PIJ activists (one of them her own sister) from the Ramallah area, who served as intermediaries for funds sent from PIJ headquarters in Syria . They were 'Iffat Khalifah , 21, from the village of Ni'ma , and Zakiyyah Ghawanmeh , 41, a resident of the Jalazoun refugee camp. During interrogation the two stated that the money they received was also used to finance terrorist attacks carried out by PIJ squads. They also stated that they had received a fee of $100 for every transfer of funds conducted in their names.

Prisoners' Light activists in Hebron and Ramallah detained

9. During recent months a number of female PIJ activists who worked in the Hebron and Ramallah Prisoners' Light offices were detained. They dealt with the transfer of funds from PIJ headquarters in Syria to the Palestinian Authority. The funds were used to help the organization's prisoners and the families of suicide bombers, and were also transferred to terrorist-operatives . The activists arrested served as couriers and intermediaries for funds sent from Syria .

10. Among those detained were:

A. Rania Abu Khudeir , 26, a resident of the town of Surif (north of Hebron ), who headed Al-Jama'ah al-Islamiyyah, the PIJ student organization at Hebron University .

B. Hibah Hamidat , 21, a resident of the Jalazoun refugee camp and a PIJ activist working for Prisoners' Light in Ramallah. She transferred funds to terrorist-operatives .

C. Filastin Khamis Sabah , 21, a resident of the Jalazoun refugee camp and a PIJ activist working for Prisoners' Light in Ramallah. She transferred funds to terrorist-operatives .

The PIJ civilian infrastructure (da'wah) institutions
at which the terrorists were detained

Prisoners' Light Institute (Mu'assasat Mishkat al-Asir)

11. Prisoners' Light ( Mishkat al-Asir ) belongs to the PIJ. Its stated objective is to provide help and support for the organization's prisoners and detainees imprisoned in Israel and even in the PA. The support includes legal aid for the organization's imprisoned members, food packages and help for their families.

12. The institution has branches throughout the PA, including Tulkarm, Jenin and Dura. During searches conducted at the time in the offices in Tulkarm a large quantity of incitement propaganda was found, including material encouraging the continuation of suicide bombing attacks and jihad against Israel and the Jews. 2 As noted above, during interrogation, the female detainees admitted that they had transferred funds from Syria to finance terrorist-operative activities.

Al-Jama'ah al-Islamiyyah

13. Al-Jama'ah al-Islamiyyah, whose Hebron University branch was headed by Rania Abu Khadir, is the PIJ's student organization.

14. It is an important component in the organization's terrorism-supporting civilian infrastructure . The PIJ student organization, like that of Hamas, deals with incitement to terrorism and with the dissemination of radical Islamic ideologies in the PA's universities . Its membership is important for locating and enlisting terrorists into the organization's ranks and dispatching them on terrorist attacks.

15. Al-Jama'ah al-Islamiyyah's Website describes its ideology in detail: “ Israel is an oppressive, illegal entity ... According to [Islamic] law its existence cannot be recognized and it cannot be allowed to live in security within the Palestinian homeland… Jihad for the sake of Allah is a legal right [and can be used] to repel the invaders and settlers from Islamic and Muslim lands.

PIJ posers decorate the stage for an Al-Jama'ah al-Islamiyyah event. The inscription at the top reads, "The Palestinian Islamic Jihad." At the left, Islamic slogans on the background of a map of Palestine , the Qur'an, the Dome of the Rock and an assault rifle. In the center, Al-Jama'ah al-Islamiyyah's emblem. At the right (and lower left), a picture of the organization's founder, Fathi Shqaqi (killed in Malta in 1995).

1. According to an Israeli Security Agency report

2. For further information see ITICCSS infoInformation Bulletin of December 2005 entitled "The distribution of virulent anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic hate propaganda continues in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, although incitement in the official media has abated under Abu Mazen," at Incitement [web] or Incitement [Pdf] .
