Borat arrives in Australia thru side entrance

Kazakhstan's best-known ambassador, minus trademark moustache, arrived in Sydney yesterday.

Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, whose character Borat has been a smash at the US box office, is here to promote his film Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan.

Cohen, who is engaged to Australian actor Isla Fisher, arrived at Sydney Airport alone, not that many would have noticed. With just a blink, you might have missed his arrival.

Emerging from a side entrance, the casually dressed comedian shunned waiting journalists before a six-man security detail whisked him into a black four-wheel drive.

While the mere thought of Borat, a character who shot to fame on Cohen's Da Ali G Show, is enough to raise a chuckle from most, at least one Kazakhstan-born Australian isn't impressed with the satirical character.

Fewer than 500 Kazakhs live in Australia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2001 census shows, and Olympic modern pentathlon gold medallist Alexander Parygin, 32, is among them.

"I feel really disappointed that someone jokes, but not nice, about someone's country," Parygin, of Ormond in Victoria, said.

"Probably this guy doesn't know anything about Kazakhstan. It's painful jokes, not really nice.

"Kazakhstan is a beautiful country, the best. It looks beautiful and the people are friendly and it is similar to Australia because it's a multicultural country."
