War Criminal : The Beast of Botzano
Michael Seifert has Bail Refused

Seifert was known as the Beast of Bolzano at the transit camp
where he served as a guard during the Second World War.

Former Nazi guard denied bail; Jewish group hails ruling
VANCOUVER -- At 83, convicted war criminal Michael Seifert may have had his last whiff of freedom.

Sentenced to life imprisonment in Italy on multiple counts of murder while he was a notorious wartime prison guard, the former Vancouver mill worker was denied bail yesterday as he pursues his final avenue of appeal to remain in Canada.

"The crimes upon which Mr. Seifert has been ordered surrendered are atrocities of the worst order," said Madam Justice Jo-Ann Prowse of the B.C. Court of Appeal.

As a result, despite Mr. Seifert's age and somewhat frail health, she agreed with federal prosecutors that public confidence in the administration of justice would be undermined if he were released.

This stunning photo is from Muse at Me~ander...

Rafi G from Life in Israel has been gracious enough to do this Fortnights JPix.

JPix is looking for people willing to host the upcoming editions. It runs every fortnight and usually is posted on a Wednesday/Thursday, but due to Rafi being away it was agreed to extend this edition to Friday.

Now that people know they have to submit to have a good chance to be in JPix the work load is a lot easier.

For those that are willing to give hosting JPix a go, (thanks Rafi G for your offer to host JPix 14 this time) I would still encourage you to go scouting for 'new talent' but in essence, the regulars have been whipped into shape and most of the work is basically already done.

Now knowing this, who is going to host next fortnights JPix15? If you miss out, JPix 16 and Jpix 17 are still available as well. Leave a comment or email Mr Bagel to let me know.

Haaretz Hack writes another hack job

What a sad decline into the abyss...

Time to Attack
By Avraham Burg

The system of "sacred balance" is Israel's way of surviving and feeling normal. If something happens on the left, it immediately must be canceled out by an event on the right - and then everyone can relax. These equations create the illusion of sanity and save the sticky majority, which is searching for the warm and opinionless center, from having to relate to matters in a matter-of-fact way. It is from there, from the wide open spaces of a valueless and content-free consensus, that Israel's ruin will come - because if everything is balanced and canceled out, there is no need to take a position, or to do anything. It is therefore not surprising that Israel, with all its equations, cannot make decisions on matters of morality and state.

The latest equation bridges between draft-dodgers and the soldiers who refuse to evacuate homes in Hebron. On the face of it, we have draft-dodgers - the left-wing bleeding hearts from greater Tel Aviv - and evacuation refuseniks - nationalistic and idealistic, but "a little" too extreme, too patriotic and too religious. And we are in the middle: We live outside Tel Aviv, but not in Hebron; we want peace but are not prepared to pay the Arabs the price. Instead of being flooded with concern over the fanatics and rabbis who have penetrated the fabric of Israeli statehood like cancerous cells, we have created an equation. We were furious for two days, we condemned them - and we went on our merry way. Everything is balanced, thank God.

After the waves of demagoguery, spin and media opportunism have passed, it will become clear that this equation is extremely dangerous, because it releases us from dealing with this country's unruly elements. The more we ignore the cancer of rabbinical nationalism, the closer and more concrete the mortal danger is. The real equation is between the refuseniks of Hebron and their foundation in Torah - and Hamas, Hezbollah, Christian fundamentalists and their fanatic brethren.

What is happening in Israel is part of a worldwide trend. U.S. President George W. Bush accepted with terrifying superficiality the worldview of Samuel Huntington, who stated that the past's wars over economic interests, nationalism and territory have made way for international cultural wars. Huntington claimed that a clash of civilizations is taking place before our eyes - Christianity versus Islamic zealotry.

This is a terrible statement, because it oversimplifies the world into two sides - we are all Bushes, and they are all Osama Bin Ladens. Thus, in one fell swoop, all the Muslim, democratic Turks; the hundreds of millions of Muslim, democratic Indians; the Arabs of Israel; the hundreds of thousands of new democrats in Palestine; and many others around the world have been pushed into the corner with the really bad guys. Meanwhile, many evil people have been rendered legitimate merely because they are Christians or Jews. The time has come for another worldview.

The real clash is between members of democratic civilizations and those of theocratic civilizations. The first group accepts everybody as sources of administrative authority undiscriminatorily; the others view God, not mortals, as their authority, and rely on his word, apostles and zealots. This schism cuts across Christianity and Islam and is also occuring here, in Judaism. Despite the sticky and vague "schmaltz" of "the unity of Israel," there is no escaping the question of whether there is - or should be - any kind of unity with these people. In my opinion, the answer is no - they are not my brethren, they are my enemies.

There is no theological difference between certain rabbis from Hebron, the former Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, and the evangelical preacher hoping for Armageddon at the site of our Megiddo. Those who say that "God's law is first" are no different from one another, whether they wear a rabbi's skullcap, Hezbollah's turban or the cloak of a North American spiritual leader. They are all engaged in a cruel battle against me. They are the enemies of freedom and democracy, and are hostile to liberty, equality and the status of women.

In a world like this, we must form new coalitions. The division between "us" and "our enemies" cannot be based merely along national or familial lines, or in beliefs and genetics. The world is divided into a coalition of some Jews, some Christians and some Muslims, versus other members of their nations and religions. Democracy versus theology.

This is not a "gentle" argument, but rather war - the rabbi against the sovereign, the "Jewish" against the "democratic," halakha and sharia against civil law, the church against the state. They cannot live under the same roof, and they are currently fighting the most ancient and most modern war - religion versus state.

And in war, like in war: The legal standing of the inciting rabbi is the same as that of the inciting sheikh, because both are equally hostile. One wants to see me dead physically, and the other wants to see me dead democratically and morally. Since I oppose the death sentence in all cases, I cannot thus condemn my domestic enemies. But the army of the democratic state, as well as its systems of governance, must purify itself from all the enemies planted by theocracy. The "army of God" must not be permitted to gain control of the institutions of state power. The state must cut the lifeline of these subversive elements, and rescind the benefits it grants them. Democracy must stop apologizing and defending itself - the time has come for initiative and attack. Weak words and nebulous formulae will not help anything here. In the choice between them and us, I favor us - for democracy, and against all its enemies, both inside and out.

Bagelblogger: Speechless! ? Avraham Burg thinks its appropriate to write;
"The more we ignore the cancer of rabbinical nationalism, the closer and more concrete the mortal danger is. "
He compares Judaism to a cancer;
"We live outside Tel Aviv, but not in Hebron; we want peace but are not prepared to pay the Arabs the price. Instead of being flooded with concern over the fanatics and rabbis who have penetrated the fabric of Israeli statehood like cancerous cells, we have created an equation. We were furious for two days, we condemned them - and we went on our merry way."
Burg makes his feelings quite clear about Zionist inspired religious Jews in Israel:
Despite the sticky and vague "schmaltz" of "the unity of Israel," there is no escaping the question of whether there is - or should be - any kind of unity with these people. In my opinion, the answer is no - they are not my brethren, they are my enemies."
Nice to see that a fellow Jew could feel so positive about his 'fellow' brethren in Israel.

He extends this argument to the depths of depravity comparing Hamas to Judaism;
"There is no theological difference between certain rabbis from Hebron, the former Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin..."
Avraham Burg seems to be on a steady decline into leftist oblivion, as each day passes and his views become less and less acceptable and valued, his pronouncements become louder and shriller.

Quite a sad departure from his promising start. If any one bothers to write a biography about Burg once he succumbs to the eventual dementia that so clearly is represented in his recent intellectual arguments I can think of one very apt title. Yawn

Iranian Madness:
A State and leader out of control

Iranian court orders five former Argentinian officials to Iran on security charges

TEHRAN, Iran: An Iranian court has summoned five former Argentinian government officials to journey to Iran and answer charges of working against the security of the country, state television announced Thursday.

The five officials were all involved in an investigation that implicated Iran in a 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires that killed 85 people and wounded 200.

The report said the Argentinians had been informed of the summons via diplomatic channels and if they did not travel to Iran and appear in court in the coming days, an international arrest warrant would be issued against them.
The court summoned former federal Judge Juan Jose Galeano, Interior Minister Carlos Corach, chief prosecutors Eamon Mullen and Jose Barbaccia, and Ruben Beraja, a banker and former head of the Delegation of Argentine Jewish Associations.

More Argentinians could be summoned in the future, the television report added.

The announcement comes in the wake of Argentinian federal Judge Rodolfo Canicoba Corral's December declaration that former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani and eight other officials were "fugitives from justice" for not responding to arrest warrants issued earlier.

At the time, the judge said he had serious evidence linking the officials, which included including former intelligence chief Ali Fallahijan and former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, to the bombing.

Iran has denied any involvement in the attack and has said it does not recognize the validity of the arrest warrants and would oppose any attempt to detain the former president or other Iranian citizens.

There are a number of cases in Iran about alleged attempts to harm its national security, particulary involving British and Americans, and currently four Iranian-Americans are being investigated on such charges.

On Wednesday, a government spokesman announced the arrest of two Chinese nationals on charges of espionage against nuclear and military facilities.

Bagelblogger: The actions of Iran are quite unbelievable.

A rogue state desperately trying to develop nuclear weapons, who have proven historical links to numerous terrorists organisations and terrorist attacks and they openly flout that they have managed to get away with this terrible terrorist attack in Argentina.

Rewriting History?

Times Online:
Firms accused of rewriting their entry on Wikipedia

A host of blue-chip companies have altered their entries on Wikipedia, the online encyclopaedia, in an attempt to cover up embarrassing episodes in their history.

The discovery was made by WikiScanner, a site that traces the source of changes to the world’s largest online reference work by matching edits - which, famously, can be made by anyone - to a database of the unique “IP addresses” of the computers that were used to make them.

Machines belonging to organisations including Wal-Mart, Disney, Sony, the Labour Party, the CIA and the Vatican, have been used to rewrite entries, it alleges. WikiScanner was developed by Virgil Griffith, 24, a researcher at the California Institute of Technology.

Bagelblogger: Its hardly surprising to see corporations editing entries about themselves. It seems that as information becomes more and more accessible to the individual, the actual creation of its content is being manipulated further and further.

Much like in George Orwell's novel
1984, it would appear he who controls the media control's history. It would seem that this has been taken one step further, to whoever controls the creation of content can rewrite history.

I'm a big fan of Wikipedia, but I must admit I have seen some appalling examples of biased editing and even worse cyber attacks on individuals, companies and even countries.

Cruelty to animals on Hamas TV

It's really quite sickening to watch this video and realise that this is deemed acceptable for children. Nice little disclaimer at the end, but I think all the kiddies will know who to follow and what the real message is. The actor behind Nahoul needs to be institutionalised

Seems the out of touch supporters in Windsor, Canada who sponsored a billboard showing support for Hezbollah's Nasrallah have had their 'hero' removed. Quite incredible that a group could be so out of step with the community to even think this kind of advertising would be acceptable.

Seems that the heroic visual of the Hezbollahian version of Mr Hanky has been replaced with a car ad. Never thought I'd like seeing a car ad so much.

Outrageous claims by Iranian Defense Minister:
US behind terrorism in Iraq

The FARS News agency in Iran has made claims that the US is secretly supporting cetain terrorist groups in staging bomb blasts in Iraq.

Iran: Terrorist Blasts in Iraq Led by US

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said here on Sunday that the US is secretly supporting certain terrorist groups in staging bomb blasts in Iraq.

Addressing a monthly meeting of the defense diplomacy committee of the Defense Ministry, the General dismissed the US president's recent accusations that Iran smuggles arms to Iraq, and stressed that Bush is projecting the blame on others.

"Our information shows that the Untied States secretly supports terrorist groups in Iraq and manages explosions in that country, specially in Baghdad, at a specific level," he continued.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran views security of Iraq as a Muslim and neighboring country, as its own security and believes that a safe, integrated and united Iraq can serve as a significant factor in regional stability and security," the minister added.

Also noting Iran's efforts to reinvigorate peace, stability and security in Iraq, he viewed withdrawal of occupiers and a stop of their supports for terrorist groups as the only way to restore calm and stability in Iraq.

"Welfare, security, progress and development of Iraq will materialize only in light of the independent and popular government of that country and cordial relations with the neighboring states," Najjar reiterated.

He also said that soothing of tensions and establishment of security and tranquility in Iraq and the region worries Washington, reminding that such events would annul the raison detre for the presence of the US troops in Iraq and the region.

The defense minister underscored that consolidation and expansion of relations with the regional, and specially the neighboring, countries sets Iran's strategic and irrevocable policy, and added, "In the same line, we will not allow the US and Israel to bring Iran's relations with regional countries into tension."

Najjar also said that development of defense and security ties with regional states underpins Iran's defense diplomacy, and concluded, "Today we have very desirable defense and security relations with a majority of the world countries and we are striving to further develop these ties."

Bagelblogger: I think the transparent motives behind these claims of the Iranian Defense minister belies the real intentions of Iran. Iran will and is supporting the insurgency in Iraq towards its own needs.

The thought that Iran is directly suppling IED explosive devices which are causing high rates of mortality amongst US soldiers needs to be addressed.

It might be the last thing the American public wants, but it it needs to be the primary objective of the US government. The Iranians have a history of terrorism, and terrorist support.

Iran is doing everything it can to keep the US embroiled in Iraq, this helps Iran continue with its Nuclear ambitions knowing the US dare not open up the Iranian front in the effort against Terrorism.

State Department Blacklists Fatah al-Islam

Lebanese group labeled as terrorist; blamed for violence at refugee camp
Washington - The Bush administration has blacklisted as a "foreign terrorist organization" a Lebanese Islamist group blamed for major fighting at a refugee camp, the Associated Press has learned.

The State Department is expected to announce on Monday the designation against al-Qaida- inspired Fatah al-Islam, which is suspected of having links to Syria.

The designation imposes financial and travel restrictions on the group and its members, officials said Saturday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The officials said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice signed off on the decision to place the radical group on the international terror list on Friday. The sanctions took effect with her signature.

The U.S. designation of Fatah al-Islam will bring to 43 the number of groups on the blacklist, which already includes many of the world's most notorious terrorist organizations.

The designation freezes the assets of the group in U.S. jurisdictions, bars its members from U.S. soil and makes it illegal for U.S. citizens or those subject to U.S. laws to provide it with "material support or resources."

The action against the Lebanese group comes as the Bush administration is stepping up efforts to distance Lebanon from Syrian influence. It also comes as clashes between Lebanese troops and Fatah al-Islam militants at the Nahr el-Bared camp have killed at least 136 people since they erupted in May.

There was no immediate comment from Lebanese officials. Fatah al-Islam militants, who spoke to journalists by mobile phone from inside the Nahr el-Bared camp in the early days of the fighting, can no longer be reached.

The fighting is the worst internal violence in Lebanon since its 1975-90 civil war and has dragged on despite the Lebanese army besieging the camp to uproot the group.

The army has refused to halt its offensive until the militants completely surrender, but the gunmen have vowed to fight to the death.

The whereabouts of Fatah al- Islam's leader, Shaker Youssef Absi, are unknown.

BagelBlogger: Its interesting to compare the ruthlessness of the Lebanese Army in dealing with this dangerous terrorist group. The
Nahr el-Bared refugee camp has for all intensive purposes been flattened, countless civilians are dead, yet we hear nothing from the Arab world or the UN?

Makes you think? mmm

Lies , Lies, and more lies:
The making of another 'Martyr Myth'

The release of the footage of the Old City Shootings should have put an end to the Lies and fabrications that Palestinian trouble makers were trying to generate from unsubstantiated rumors about the cause of the shootings.

The attacker's family had claimed that he was shot by the security guard's partner with out cause.

Another even more sinister version that he had visited the old city for Friday prayers on the Temple Mount and was killed because he had left his identity card at home.

At his funeral Sheikh Raed Salah the leader of the Islamic Movement's northern branch stated:

"Those who murdered Ahmed Khatib are criminals, terrorists and cowards" he said. He also promised that those responsible will be cursed by Ahmed's blood.
Even after the release of the footage that shows Ahmed Khatib was the attacker and instigator, Ahmed's father Mahmoud said the closed circuit footage was a fabrication, he also claimed the security guards were at fault and that the blame lay with the Israeli Government.

Bagelblogger: The astonishment one should feel in hearing Palestinian claims the tapes are 'fabrications' isn't there, this hatred festered by the Palestinian Authority towards Jews goes beyond anything logical.

The real question is why aren't authority figures responsible for this hatred arrested? Why isn't Sheikh Raed Salah being charged with the crime of incitement to violence?

His comments were untruthful, inflammatory and without any basis in fact, they were simply designed to incite the racial anger Palestinian Arabs have towards Jews, even if this anger is based on lies.

What if there had not been this footage? Would we now be looking at the start of another wave of Terrorism justified by so called Palestinian 'Facts' screamed by a war mongering Sheikh?
