$1M gold tub stolen from hotel in Japan

TOKYO - A glittering bathtub made of gold worth nearly $1 million has been stolen from a resort hotel, an official said Wednesday.

A worker at Kominato Hotel Mikazuki in Kamogawa, south of Tokyo, notified police that the fancy tub was missing from the hotel's guest bathroom on the 10th floor, according to a local police official who only gave his surname, Ogawa.

The round tub, worth $987,000, is made of 18-karat gold and weighs 176 pounds.

The tub, flanked by two crane statues, has been a main feature of the hotel's shared bathroom. Visitors can take a dip in the tub, but it is only available a few hours a day "for security reasons," the hotel's Web site said.

Someone apparently cut the chain attached to the door of a small section of the bathroom where the bathtub was placed, but not riveted, and made off with the tub, Ogawa said.

"We have no witness information and there are no video cameras," he said. "We have no idea who took it," the official said.

Controversial cartoons from Jyllands Posten

Review of Middle East Cartoons Blog:

I came across a great blog called Middle East Cartoons. The author posts cartoons which appear in the Middle East press or have Middle East perspectives and themes. The author adds their own unique insight into what they think the cartoons are trying to convey. I throughly recommend you have a look.

They reviewed the controversial series of cartoons from Denmark below:

This is the now notorious series of Mohammed cartoons that appeared in Jyllands Posten newspaper in Denmark and has sparked all this Muslim outrage around the world.
mohammed cartoon from Jyllands Posten
This is the first Mohammed cartoon originally published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten. This is what all the outrage is about. Not sure what this Mohammed cartoon is meant to say.
mohammed cartoon from Denmark
I think this cartoon about Mohammed is meant to say something about the reversal of roles in Muslim society and perhaps the hiding behind Islam of terrorists.
Danish mohammed cartoon
This next cartoon in the infamous Mohammed cartoonn series is really ironic. Here is an artist hiding while drawing a cartoon of Mohammed to avoid being terrorised. Now isn't that exactly what has happened?
mohammed cartoons
From what I understand this Mohammed cartoon basically says "Wait don't worry, they are only Danish infidels. Please correct me if I am wrong.
mohammad cartoon from Danish newspaper
I have absolutely no idea what this cartoon is saying about Mohammad or Islam. Please tell me if you understand.
mohammad cartoons from newspaper
In another version of this Mohammad cartoon I saw a caption that said the Mohammad being referred to was actually a boy in class and not the Muslim prophet. Comments?
mohammad cartoons from Jyllands Posten
This next one of the Mohammad cartoons talks about womans freedom (or lack thereof) in Islam and makes some sort of comparison to other religions while addressing Mohammad.
mohammad cartoons
This Mohammad cartoon I think is actually a stab at one of the artists who drew the cartoons about how this can all ultimately be viewed as a publicity stunt. Talk about bad publicity, doubt they envisioned worldwide Muslim riots over these Mohammad cartoons.
muhammed cartoons
I think this Muhammed cartoon is meant to compare Muhammed to Jesus, with the horns on Muhammed being the obvious add in. Not sure, tell me what you think.
muhammed cartoon
This cartoon of Muhammed from Jyllands Posten is exactly the type of thing that the Muslims around the world are so upset about. It knocks their beliefs in a middle east cartoon and depicts Muhammed - 2 big no no's! 2 questions I have heard in the past regarding the virgins promised to Muslim terrorists for killing innocent people are 1)how many virgins are there, if each terrorist (martyr according to some) gets one and 2)what do the women terrorists get?
Danish muhammed cartoons
This one of the Muhammed cartoons is a bit strange and the message evades me, but apparently translates as "I don't recognise him". Something about all these different people looking or being the same as Muhammed with turbans on. Opinions please!
muhammed cartoons from Jyllands Posten
This is one of the Muhammed cartoons that has been referred to the most in this recent spate of outrage by Muslims worldwide (by the way since when is outrage at a foreign newspaper an excuse for voilence and destruction in other countries?). This particular cartoon about Muhammed really offended Muslims becauase it is a direct depiction of Muhammed (and Islam) being violent and promoting violence and death. Draw your own conclusions!

Unbelievable! Associated Press Gets it Right!
I never thought I would see the day...

I thought I would never see this. An actual objective account and apparently relatively non biased report of the hostilities between Israel and Hamas.

JERUSALEM — Israel resolved Wednesday to keep striking Palestinians who fire rockets at Israeli border towns and a pre-dawn air attack on northern Gaza killed two members of a Hamas rocket squad.
Not two civilians, not even two Palestinians, two militants or even to activivists, read it it: two members of a Hamas rocket squad
The supreme leader of the Islamic militant group Hamas, which has been behind the latest surge in rocket attacks, vowed that attacks on Israel would continue, too.

Israel said it was not negotiating a truce with "terror" groups.
Now real news here, the Supreme leader is behind these rocket attacks, and displays his uncompromising hatred towards Israel.
Hamas, the senior partner in the Palestinian government, has launched most of the 270 rockets that the Israeli military says have been fired since violence flared in mid-May. The projectiles are crude but they have killed two Israeli civilians.
Crude not 'home made', not ineffective or ineffective... "but they have killed two Israeli civilians." They actually acknowledge that it was two Israeli civilians. Not two de humanized 'Zionists', 'Settlers', residents of the 'occupied territories'.
Israel has hit back with airstrikes that have killed more than 50 Palestinians, most of them militants.
Read this 'most of them militants', not 'most innocent civilians' or 'mostly people returning from Prayer'... or 'most women and children'.
Israel's Security Cabinet met to assess the situation and concluded that Israel's two-week-old military campaign has been effective in "relatively" reducing rocket fire, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office said.

"There are results to the Israeli army's actions, and therefore we will continue our operations," Security Cabinet member Isaac Herzog told Army Radio after the meeting.

"Israel is not conducting any negotiations for a cease-fire with terror organizations," Olmert's office added.
In addition to striking back from the air, Israel has conducted limited ground operations inside Gaza, and arrested dozens of Hamas political leaders in the West Bank.
Limited ground operations, not 'Gaza invasion' or 'full onslaught' ...
Two Palestinians traveling in a car in the northern West Bank were killed in an explosion Wednesday night, Palestinian security officials said. They said the cause of the blast was not known. The violent Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades group, linked to the moderate Fatah faction, said the two men were its militants and blamed Israel for the attack. But the Israeli army said it had no report of any military activity in the area.
The use of the word violent next to Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade group, its almost a shock to see this, it seems to suit so much better than 'militant' or 'Palestinian resistance group..'.
Its quite sad, that this group is often described and cloaked in a neutral language as thou they have a lofty ideal they strive for. They're a terrorist group, an organisation that murders innocents, civilians plain and simple.
In Berlin, the Quartet of Middle East peacemakers urged a halt to fighting between Israel and Hamas, calling on the Palestinian authority to "do everything necessary" to restore law and order.

The quartet — Russia, the United States, the United Nations and the European Union — met Wednesday in Berlin and issued a statement urging "all Palestinians to immediately renounce all acts of violence and respect the cease-fire."
The quartet placing the responsibility for the conflict squarely where it belongs at the feet of the Palestinians who have persisted in firing rockets even when there was supposed to be a cease fire.
It condemned the firing of rockets into southern Israel from Gaza and the buildup of arms by Hamas militants and "other terrorist groups" in Gaza.
Details usually omitted in less balanced articles.

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal warned from his base in Damascus, Syria, that attacks on Israel would continue despite the Israeli reprisals.

The scourge of the West, the Face of Evil tries to spin it as though the 'Poor Palestinians' are only fighting back, not this time Khaled, the world's seen you for your bald faced lies.
"Under occupation people don't ask whether their means are effective in hurting the enemy," Khaled Mashaal told London's Guardian newspaper in an interview published Wednesday. "The Palestinians have only modest means, so they defend themselves however they can."
The only problem Khaled is Gaza is under occupation, they're not defending, they're attacking, and what's worst their targeting the civilian population. No more lies Khaled Mashaal, the world has seen who has broken the cease fire.
The latest cycle of violence is expected to top the agenda of Olmert's meeting next week with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, a moderate who favors peacemaking, but has been ineffective in stopping the militant attacks.

Abbas has proposed a truce agreement that would commit Gaza militants to halt their rocket fire for a month to permit negotiations on a more comprehensive cease-fire including the West Bank, where Israel conducts frequent arrest raids against militants. He has also urged militants to take the first step in forging a new cease-fire, saying the alternative would be the collapse of the Palestinian national unity government.
Militants have said a truce was out of the question as long as Israel kept up its attacks and refused to extend any Gaza cease-fire to the West Bank. Israel has so far rejected the notion of applying the truce to West Bank, especially in light of the latest round of attacks from Gaza.
Compared to the usual dribble that has come from news agencies, its a refreshing change to see a little more balance come into the reporting on the Israel - Palestinian issue. Its not perfect but it sure is a lot better than usual.

One wonders if it has anything to do with the BBC kidnapped Journalist Alan Johnston. Could it be the honey moon for the Palestinians with the Media is over, and the divorce courts are looming?

Haveil Havalim #118
The Cats out of the Bag Edition

HH118

The Cats out of the Bag Edition

Seems Haveil Havalim 118 is a little more than usual. Ya'aqov has expressed some valid thoughts, about the content of Haveil Havalim, what is and isn't acceptable, and the editorial power the hoster has over the carnival. Food for thought.

He has done a great job with Haveil Havalim as he usually does.

Check it out: Haveil Havalim 118

A Brand New Blog:
A Brand New Life;
Making Aliyah soon!

Rejewvenation

Seems they've made a decision to make Aliyah.

"I am applying for our passports next week and as soon as I get them, we are going to apply with Nefesh b'Nefesh so that the process will be underway. By this time 2008, I expect for us to be olim chadashim, living and working in the land that is our inheritance from Hashem."

I'll let Rejewvenation share the good news.

But I couldn't help but notice one little point Gavi made.
