Welcome to the Jewish and Israeli Popularity awards.
aka JIB Awards

I acknowledge that each and every one of us are different.
I acknowledge that each of us have different ideas and concepts.

But I'm finding it hard to reconcile that a Blogger that has posted:

6 posts in April,
4 posts in March,
4 posts in February
and
5 posts in January

Yes you count correctly, that's 19 posts this year.

Is in the running for the award for Best Right Wing Political Blog, steamrolling Israeli Cool [Aussie Dave], and actually leading the charge for Best New blog. [131 votes]

I would think some one might be advised to spend more time on writing posts that running for popularity contests.

Being the famous radio star that you are,
heres your eleventh blog link to your not so famous blog.

Despite your JIB post managing to drive in the vicinity of 131 Votes,
I note not one of your faithful voters left you a comment on that post?

And in the famous words of Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind:
"Frankly My dear I don't give a damn."
Please leave vexatious comments with an asterisk in front, so as I can, in a timely manner give them the contempt they deserve.

This cartoon is derived from a cartoon by Hack, (Matt Buck)

Hi BB,
Unfortunately some people put personal ambition above giving recognition to worthy bloggers who put a lot of work and many hours into their blog.

I've tried stay on the fence about JIB Awards, but this morning I blew it.

It's food for thought, not sour grapes.
http://me-ander.blogspot.com/2007/05/unfairness-in-jib.html

Lots of bloggers sent requests to all sorts of non-blogging email lists, begging friends and acquaintances to vote for them. It's one thing for Aunt Sally or Cousin Sam to do a favor, but there's a distortion in the nominations and results.

Maybe if you do it again, take a committee of out of the running,"senior bloggers" and they'll check out each blog nominated to see if everyone suits minimal criteria.

My proposal is that the committee of "senior bloggers" cannot run for awards.

I agree with Muse, there needs to be some sort of criteria.

It is wrong that someone with a blog like Tamar Yonah's could win a JIB award.

It is not right, her votes have come from her radio listeners not her blog readers.

If I put in one-tenth the amount of time and effort that you do and my blog looked one-tenth as good as yours, I think I would be peeved as well.

For my new little Temunot blog, the JIBs are great since they increase traffic and expose more people to my blog. And I got soundly trounched in the first round.

Mr. B, you got my votes and so does Mrs. B

Mr. B - I've been voting for you and I think your cartoon for this post deserves an EXTRA SPECIAL award!!

How about giving her an award for "the most temerity" or "the biggest set of ***** by a casual blogger"?

I blog because I enjoy it. And I can see you enjoy being very creative and pointed. I guess some of us need those JIBs to keep proping up our bloated egos.

I lost my ego and self-esteem years ago... LOL so it doesn't matter to me - however, when I look at someone like Debbie Schlussel's blog - who is all over TV & Radio here - and hasn't said a word about the JIBs but pays attention to her content - vs. Tamar Yonah....

I am too much of a lady to complete this comment.

I don't see what the committee has to do with it... and you won't find large bloggers willing to do all the work involved.

Ouch...my poor little koala! (nice graphic, though).

For what it's worth, I think the committee this year have made some mistakes, including:
1. Opening the awards up to some radical anti-Israel blogs (I am not talking merely left-wing, but rather anti-Israel). This goes against the purpose of the awards - at least the purpose I had in mind.
2. Seemingly not evaluating the validity of some blogs vis-a-vis their nominated categories.
3. Allowing committee blogs to compete.

Having said that, I know the committee members have put in a lot of work, and have the right motives. And let's face it - they got off their tushes and did something, so they have my respect.

I am also heartened by David Linn's comment above. For me, the JIBs are a success if they bring new readers to blogs helping promote Judaism and Israel.

David,

That certainly wasn't your attitude last time round. Glad to see you're making some progress.

How about the JIBs being an award for anti-Israeli and possibly anti-Semitic blogs, though? Will you change the name to the JIPs -- Jewish, Israeli and Palestinian awards? :)

David,

What are you talking about? I have never said otherwise about the JIBs committee members.

i do think blogs should have minimum qualifications in terms of posts at least

anti-israel blogs at an israeli and jewish blog awards just don't belong

we have enough of that in the mainstream media-- why bring that home to blogs whose purpose is meant to bring notice to pro-israel blogs?
